The Brief
Spunk Your Creek is a street dance battle that fills a room past its comfortable capacity and keeps it there for hours. I covered the event end to end and delivered a set of showcase films cut from it.
Shooting a battle means giving up control. You cannot block a scene, you cannot ask for another round. The camera has to read intention a half second before it happens, then stay with it.
The edit is built around the crowd as much as the dancers. The reaction is the story: the moment a room decides who won before the judges do.
